Why not?

Say you spend a few days. 12 hour days, developing the best KW set there is for your targeted words and phrases.
You THEN build a site that makes the best use of these KWs.
You submit and wait for the spiders and editors to do their thing.

Why not get some traffic in 15 minutes and more in 3 days.

We use PPC to get products and services to the market FAST.

You can load findwhat.com in no time and the price is right in most cases.
goto.com will have your bids up in about 3 days.
The combination of the 2 will help you average down the cost.

When the SEs and Directories finally pick you up, you may wish to lower some bids.

IF, as will happen, an engine goes NUTS; and, you loose your ranking - PPC can act as an insurance policy.

Say you didn't do so well on Oct 25th 1999 in AV.
What to do? Bid up in PPC and POW you are back in the game in minutes.

You can gain more control over your traffic by using some PPC - imho

[results will vary]

Couldn't agree with you more *IF* your site converts. If it doesn't, you're guaranteed to be out some money. But, it's the same with a conventional ad isn't it?

Many of the publishers that depended on banner revenue can no longer afford PPC. Even at .01 a bid, it is a money-loser.

I should add that PPC may also be valid if you're trying to establish "brand."

Last fall (1999) I helped a manufacturer rush a timely, short term Y2K product to market. The PPC traffic that GoTo offered was key to the Internet side of this plan. They also used direct mail and telemarketing.

Since we were only concerned with paid for results, it was a lot of fun to build a site with NO search engine constraints -- just pure marketing copy and layout. It was like the first warm day when you can finally take off your shirt and catch some sun.

Well?? Don't leave us hanging, tedster. Did you get your CTR? Did they convert? Was there evidence that their conversion ratio was higher because you were able to be more attuned to marketing vs SEO?
