How to get registered in USA search engines

My client market is more US than Uk. The problem i am having is my site (.co.uk and .com) only appears to show up when i search for UK only listings.

Does anyone know exactly what is used to determine location so i can get this changed.

One is likely the IP adddress so i need to move my site to a host in the US. The only other thing i can think of is the domain name. Would a search engine look who owns a domain name and if the registrant is uk based?.'

Could there be anything else it looks for?

TIA

Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]

Actually, a .co.uk will do ok in the global search, however, you're going the correct way when you consider the hosting implications.
Also, carefully consider your directory listings and which categories you go for. Obviously, you don't want to end up in the UK regional categories.

Hmm that was a good start. My first post and moved because it was to the wrong group, sorry about that mods!.

In addition to my post does anyone have any links to lists of the best USA web hosts so i can get my site moved to a usa ip.
The only one im aware of is verio, which i guess is a bit like our uk btinternet.
