best software to SE optimize

does one stand out against the others?

Hello All,

I have been working with a web master to optimize client's web site. Using this software he ID'd the top key phrases that a. people are searching under, and b. these key phrasas did not have huge competition.
He won't tell me what he is using, but I know it is not Web Gold. Any ideas?, he also attached a number variable for each key phrase tested, i,e. a count above 50 was favorable.
Any ideas as to he may be using, and general thoughts on optimizing? As we also did a link campaign where site is a a pr 5 but link page droppped for a 5 to 0, I think becasue of the algorithms that found our site uses "links" on our main menu.
YOur thoughts are always appreciated...

Sounds like Wordtracker and the famous KEI. (keyword efficiency index)

Wordtracker is just a tool. Make sure the webmaster sees it as a tool, and not the holy grail.

Yes, it is word tracker, as it is not a US company, is it worth using them on a temp basis to run the keyword searches? It seems to have been effective but who can tell?

Wordtracker is a good tool and as long as you consider spelling variations it will help you find keyword phrases related to your industry.

As you develop traffic to the sites you'll notice certain phrases that pull in 3-5 referrals a month. Those are the phrases you need to develop.

"Pesto Sauce Recipes" is a targeted phrase. "pesto sauce recipes with cilantro" is an extremely targeted phrase, won't bring as much traffic and may not show up in Wordtracker. Your logs will let you know about hundreds of phrases like "pesto sauces with cilantro".
