Breaking mega mall up into niche sites

I am wondering if it could be seen as spammy or if my site could be penalized for the following.

I have a site which is kind of like a mall, with numerous product categories and many items in each category.

www.MainMallSite.com

It is sometimes hard to target users looking for "wobbles" when "wobbles" are just a small portion of www.mainsite.com.

I would like to create numerous niche sites to help users find products better as well as being able to market and advertise these sites in different ways.

www.Widgets.com
www.Wobbles.com
www.Wizzles.com

Each site would be very different, geared toward the individual product line and would not be interlinked in any way.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

So where do you see a problem then? Why should that get penalized?

Just wanted to get thoughts... My only concern really is how similar the product copy could be since it will appear on the niche site as well as on the mainsite.

Should I take steps to change the actually product copy for each product on the niche site or could I leave it the same?

The overall site copy will be different.
