I am confused about listing sites.

For an example...I have a website about my dog that I have NEVER submitted to search engine. Yet, it is listed just about everywhere. Yahoo, MSN etc. I even rank #1 with a key phrase on Google. I know the spiders found it but if I go to these search engines and want to submit "another site" I have it will cost money. I didn't even see a place to submit on Yahoo.

This dog website has been around for almost 2 years. I can't wait that long for my new sites to be listed.

I can't do pay per click and am willing to go to each individual SE and submit myself. Is there somewhere on the forum that has a list of SE you can submit to for free?

Need a lesson on this....thanks for your time.

P.S. Hope it isn't a dumb question but if I see it in the SE do I just leave things as is or submit with information I want to give them?

Why don't you take advantage of that first site, and just put links to your other sites on there. This way, when the spiders come along for their weekly/monthly indexes, they'll follow those links, and you'll get listed for free!

Porkchop,
The more links you have from other sites, the faster you will be taken up in various engines for free. Google is usually the fastest one. Submit to dmoz, joeant (free if you become an editor), goguides and gimpsy for example. Once you're in there, search engines will find the links to your site and happily come for a visit. You can submit 5 pages per day for free in Altavista.
Are you in a hurry to get your new site into engines? In that case you should consider to pay for inclusion of at least your main page. If your site is listed in Inktomi, it will appear in many other engines on the web. Alltheweb and Altavista also have paid alternatives. If you do not pay, it could take many months for your site to get listed.
