Name for the site map page

Many moons ago, Brett said not to name your site map page "site map" because search engines will rank that page low and possibly the pages it links to low.

So I am wondering...what *is* the correct name for it that people will understand and search engines don't kill?

Site contents
Site index (like a book)
Table of contents (also like a book)
Site table of contents

Any suggestions?

Doc:
Any reason? Have you had better luck with that title and crawlers than with site map?

In a related issue, "links" and "resources" can also be poison words. I'm experimenting on a new site with the word "WebLinks". I'll know soon if users relate naturally to it, and if SEs let it pass without penalty.

It is a real conundrum isn't it? For awhile, you could use Resources, but that moment has passed as well.

I am using Site Tree.

You could also use "site chart".

I tend towards "Table of Contents" or "Index" myself.

But I guess the challenge is that what ever title comes into vogue, the SEs may decide to react against that title.

Perhaps we should also include a version with a nonsense title in a not-too-visible link for the robots?? Being careful not to upset the engines of course.

G,
I have never had a problem using Table of Content..
Makes your site sound like it has a lot of content. Well at least I hope so :) No Problems with it

Site Floorplans, Site Schematics, Site Navigator, Site Roadmap, Site Layout, Site Hints, or how about "keys to the maze" ;)

Try calling it anything but use an image map with an image saying sitemap. That way it won't be seen.

Thought I'd kick this thread to the top. Any word about a good name?

I kind of like "Site Help" or "Guide". Tedster, you never did report back..what's the word?

My results show some SE have difficulties with following links from image maps. Should not this image map complemented by some good old "noindex, follow" hallway page?

I like Table of Contents. It not only provides the user with the layout, it provides the webmaster with a place to keep track of the chaos.
