I've had my fair few clients who want SE results literlly overnight and we do say to them OVER and OVER again even before signing the contract that it takes time to get listed and to rank high on search engines, but even after all that I still get emails upon emails sometimes a week later after original optimisation and submission WHY they are listed in the search engines and why arn't they getting 1000's of visitors.

What do you all do and say to these type of clients. I know you've all had them so please share.

Thanks

Steve

Tell them to calm down and be patient.

If they are going to go out of business if they don't get that traffic NOW, tell them to go PFI and PPC.

Sometimes it can work out well this way. For example, a client needs results NOW, so you begin a PPC campaign for them and run that for the month or two while waiting for the SEO results to come in. Once the SEO results begin to appear, you back off the PPC campaign, and you can show them the money they are saving, value of SEO, etc., etc.

Explain to them how it all works; about the crawling, indexing etc...

The client that does not even care to listen to your explanation is not a good client. Most of the people, I've dealt with (I don't do SEO, I manage projects) calm down and become more patient once they understand how it works and believe that you are not just stalling the project because you got too much other work to do.

I put a detailed schedule in the contract. When discussing the schedule, I mention temporary PPC options. Most avoid them when I mention some figures.

Tell them to calm down and be patient.

Calm you say? Trust me they never will be calm. Just this week we have been in contact with 1 client nearly every day saying why isnt he listed yet and we say be PATIENT. We have told them how everything works and it seems that it goes in one ear and out the other.

tell them to go PFI and PPC.

They are already running there own PPC advertising on google and Overture. But they want our promotion work to work instantly. Madness I tell you Madness..........

Google wasn't built in a day........

Thanks

What we would do is buy some PFI listings for our clients. This would get them some quick listings, and some traffic while we worked on optimizing their pages, and getting them into the other engines.

In a lot of cases, $25-$50 is a small price to pay to keep a customer satisfied.
