Hello all,
I am having trouble submitting a site to google .
I must have manually submitted the site 5 times over the last 4 months and it still doesn't show up at all .... help am I missing something. The site does not have any adult content nor is it selling anything.

Any tips from the pro's out there?

Welcome to Webmaster World! I'm still a newbie as well, but from what I have read here, the most important submission you can make is to the Open Directory Project, dmoz.org. Their directory "feeds" most of the popular search engines, and particularly is referenced by Google.

Hope that helps! WFN

More specifically, you need links from an established site. If your site is non-commercial you can get a free listing in Yahoo as well as in DMOZ. Another source of possible links is a specialized directory, either geographical (your area) or topical (your subject area).

A link from a friend's site will do just as well if you have a friend with a web site, even if unrelated to yours.

Drcasio, submission to Google is pretty unimportant -- the way to get in is to get some links from other sites that are already in Google's index. In fact, without that they generally won't list you even if you submit.

As Web_Footed_Newbie suggested, a good place to start is with a link from dmoz, which will usually result in your being spidered by Google. But don't just wait for that -- go ahead and develop other links.

And, welcome to webmasterworld!

Hello everyone. I am very new to the world of search engine optimization and I am curious if there is a place on this site that you would recommend that I start learning from? I would like to learn good and ethical SEO from the bottom up. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Links to an established site, the higher the ranking the better, seem to work best for us.
