Should I move all my sites pages to root of the domain?

I'm thinking on moving over 7,000 google indexed pages from www.mysite.com/forums/ to www.mysite.com/

Do you guys think it is a smart move?

You won't see a dramatic increase.

One of my 'star' pages that ranks very well for its keywords is in a sub-directory. I agree with Brett on this one ;).

If you have reasons to move these pages other than to improve search engine rankings then that's another matter entirely.

Nearly forgot - welcome to WebmasterWorld! :)

From what I've seen there is nothing to be gained by this. A logical structure is probably better.

It's about linking not directory level so as the others said, if it makes sense do it, if it's purely for SEO reasons, don't bother.
