Two domains, one site, separate optimization?

Someone has suggested that they can optimise the homepage of two different domains which point to the same site, separately.

My first reaction is "no, you can't do that", or at least, "no you shouldn't do that".

Can someone confirm this is correct. Just checking.

If you got caught doing it, you would get banned.

Though i still see many website's that still utilise this, and get away with it.

I personally would avoid that strategy like the plague. There are many more ways to optomize, that would not be circumventing the rules of SE's, and preying to the foundations of Spammology
