Here's the situation:

I use yahoo geocities to host a site that was doing quite well over the holidays with a pr of 5. In late December, I was looking forward to google passing my way again to pick up some new stuff, but when it did, my page rank dropped to zero. My pages were still indexed in google, but as www.geocities.com/my_web_site instead of the www.my_web_site.com (these are not the real domains, obviously).

I scoured the web and found some lame geocities index that linked to my site using the geocities domain, and that seemed to be the source of the problem. I nixed the page, and waited for google to come around again.

It did, and my site is back to being referenced by its relative domain, but the pagerank has not been restored - it is still at zero. It's been three months, and I've resubmitted multiple times.

Any ideas out there?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, I have some suggestions to assist you in this matter. I believe PR's of nothing can be rectified with enough love. What I mean by that is go ahead map the domain -- thats fine but make sure you get a few handfuls of links going to the domain name. Keep building it up, put your site in DMOZ.org and get it linked from other sites in your field and even out of it. Try not to do the link farms instead compose e-mails to site owners complimenting their work and asking for links, or suggesting the link would be great. I often do this without saying im the owner of the site, other times I tell them; all depends on the webmaster and what I can tell about them and their site.

If geocities or some other site links to your site using the ~/user path instead of the URL you can ask them to remove it, if its geocities itself chances are it wont do any good. Possible solution is to move hosts there are many cheap solutions on the web, heck you can get a host for 1.00 a month which is worth doing to avoid popup ads and banners.
