Placing adult sites

is there too much competition?

I have a client who wants me to place some of his adult sites. Is the competition for these keywords too much, that I shouldnt even bother? Ive been told it will be near impossible to get these sites placed and ranked high.

I too run an adult site, and it's taken years to get decent rankings for certain keywords.

Here are some questions:

--Is he known in the adult community, or are these new sites?
--Is there any content on the site?
--Does he have a niche? Are the sites focused on niches?
--Does he do offline advertising or publicity?

This is a branding question, too. A lot of adult keyword1-keyword2.com URLs are taken and maybe not worth pursuing.

Competition is very stiff. Your client needs to be committed to a long term campaign to build relevance and PR and of course not to mention the all important and needed PFI accounts! They just need to be committed to an effort to see the ultimate results they want.

You can be successful...but again...the competition is fierce.

thanks Christi and SEguru2.

Christi, he is new to the biz and looking for traffic.
are subdomains worth pursuing?

for instance keyword.mydomain.com instead of www.mydomain.com.

if I do a subdomain for each keyword, is that worth it for relevancy?

or is it better mydomain.com/keyword.html?

I am better off targeting one keyword on each page, right

SEguru2,

what is exactly are PFI accounts? thanks everyone

I'm in over my head on the topic of subdomains, so I'll leave that to someone more proficient.

My real question is this: Is this a guy who's after the big guns in the field, or is he niche-oriented? In other words, is he offering the same stuff the big boys offer, or is he doing something different?

Form follows function, I believe, so the answer to that question will matter as he develops a strategy to get traffic and sales.

And yes, competition is fierce even in the niche markets.
