I'm looking at building a website with 5 sub-categories around a hub site. Each of the spoke sites will have its own URL and will be themed eg

subsite1.com}
subsite2.com}
subsite3.com} mainsite.com
subsite4.com}
subsite5.com}

mainsite.com will have 5 pages each relating to a different theme. Will it benefit me to have links from the spoke sites to the actual pages on mainsite.com that they are relevant to?

Also will it benefit me in terms of SER to have the subites on different IP addresses?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld Monkeeboy!

I have a few questions for you:

1) What is the reason you chose to seperate this content in completely different sites?

2) Does this mainsite.com have enough content to be a stand-alone site?

3) Do the sub-sites have enough content to be stand-alone sites?

4) Will the sub-sites be sub-domains or totally unique domains?

I have a few questions for you:

In reply to questions Agerhart -

1) I am trying this to see if it improves search engine ranking similar to pyramid structures (although on a slightly smaller scale) I have seen discussed on this site.

2& 3) mainsite.com will have five pages covering each specific area of the business. The spoke sites will give even more specific information only relevant to each specific area.

4)The spoke sites will each have a seperate generic domain name, again focusing on the relevant area of the business.

Hope this helps

Good Question Monkeeboy - I have thought of this sort of arrangment but didn't know if I would run into trouble with it.
I hope you get a good answer for it.
