(shame they missed out on the fact that News is released here "b4 the event actually happens")
Here would be my list:
- Most improved search related site in 2001: Greg Notess's SearchEngineShowdown. Greg had a couple of excellent articles this year.
- Hidden gems: SearchEngineBlog. Peters interview series has been excellent.
- Most improved SE: Inktomi. (proving that you can come back from the brink)
- Most promising SE: Teoma. (proving that size matters)
- Best webmaster relations: AllTheWeb.
- Easiest SE to use: Teoma walking away.
- Most consistent on the daily grind: Chris Sherman. Is Danny trying to replace himself? ;-)
- Best webmaster outreach program. Google
- Most bang-for-buck marketing award: PositionTech.
- Best taking a stand award: SearchEngineWatch for resisting the push from internet.com to load up the site with excessive ads like the others in the network.
- Losers of the year: All those that sent us DMCA take down requests (12).
It is not that the WW moderators are not a friendly bunch, but some will find it a bit embarrassing to ask questions like "what is a metatag?", when the rest of the group is discussing the set-up of Apache servers."
Just so not true about WW. To paraphrase one of the moderators on this board, all of which do an outstanding job, "You ask, you learn, then it's your turn to teach."
Great job folks!
(a) This is why I spend so much time there,
(b) This is why we contributed $$ to the forum before there ever was a 'supporters forum' bennie, and
(c) Back off, man, and let me do my job, I've clearly got the right resources for it :)
There's no need to creep on these forums.
Sometimes interesting discussions are removed too early. We watch Ally MacBeal too, and know that some American lawyers will sue God if they think it will bring in some money. Still, sometimes we wish that controversial entries would be allowed to live a little bit longer.
Like the post earlier today regarding SearchKing and Google.:)
Brett's votes:
"- Best webmaster relations: AllTheWeb"
GoogleGuy looks over at his number of posts (765?), sighs, and looks sad.
But, Brett did give Google this one:
- Best webmaster outreach program. Google
I have no idea what differentiates "webmaster relations" from "webmaster outreach," but I'm sure Brett does. :)
"He regards optimizers the way a mother grizzly might regard a hunter jabbing at her cub with a stick." (-wired [wired.com])
It's pretty evident they choose the right voice to speak for them out here. Nice work GoogleGuy.
