ok - aside from incoming links and link relevence ect - if you had to write a page from scratch that would be perfectly written for spiders...what would it be...?

Title = "Blue Widget"

Keywords (make little difference but) = "Blue Widget"

Alt text x 1 = "Blue Widget"

H1 heading = "blue widget"

Paragraph = "blue widget x 10"

One incoming link that is "blue widget"

one hypertext link = "blue widget"

now i dont think this is perfect - how can it be improved - should there be 100% keyword density in the body text - or the title (i think this is good) - or 100% alt ect ect...

what are the perfect densitys/numbers ect ect?

It would be interesting to know - i have had a fantastic year for SEO - getting new sites to number 1 spots for many keywords - site traffic has increased ten fold - so i cant be far wrong - but the fundamental theory of what, in a perfect world, you should aim for - i should think few people know. it might never be possible to do - as it wouldnt make good human reading - but it would be most interesting to know...

what are your thoughts...?

In regards to 'perfect' Im not sure if perfect is one thing or different for sites/niches.

For instance if an algo measures <h1> tag relevance based on how many <h1> tags it finds, then perfect will always be different for each indexing.

Harley_m , Its better not to be too perfect...that makes a page look SEO'd ...Google dont like it that much as it want natural pages to rank good not optimised sites :)

surely a bot looks for a specific set of things - ie key word density in the body text - the higher is is upto a certain point (say 60%) is good, then goes downhill...

It's not only density, it's distribution on the page, which elements the words appear in, their proximity to each other, the sequencing. 60% is way high, the page text should sound natural if it's read aloud.

would likely get you a ban eventually. 100% is not to be aimed for.

Different engines like different percentages.

Your meta tag for example, may be better as 'blue widget, blue widgets, buy, shop, store, discount'. You need to target more than one phrase per page (se like that kind of thing, esp powerful ones such as Google).
