Many pages, but few with keywords?

is having same meta-data on *many*pages considered spamming?

I've recently read different views on having many pages and have identical meta-data on all of them.

One of my websites has 500+ pages and now I am wondering if it hurts to have all keywords listed on all pages. Should I go for a few toppages instead?

Thanks

Personally, I would not have the same meta-data on every page.

Every page should be different enough from its fellows to deserve its own description and keywords. So I would say the choice should be either no description or keywords or unique description and keywords.

Arjen; My understanding is that while mete descriptions and keywords are of debateable value, if you are going to use them the should contain only information/words that actually appear on the page the viewer sees.

That being the case, I'd eliminate any words that did not appear on the page. This should give you a more focused set of keywords and or description.

Great advice above. I'd like to add that your description and keywords should be a combination of your <title>, opening headline <h1>, first paragraph <p> and possibly second paragraph <p>.

Keyword order should be from the <title>, <description> and then opening header <h1> and first paragraph <p>.

Description should be synonmous of the <title> and also sprinkled with terms that appear in <title>, opening header <h1> and first paragraph <p>.

Focus more towards the top of your pages and make sure the visitor gets the meat of what they are looking for as soon as possible.
