I have been a programmer at heart since 6502 days writing BBS software for C-64 and C-128 (stop groaning...), and I'm now an I.T. Director professionally.
Two years ago, I created a Web site because my wife needed weight-loss support, and paying for an online plan did not seem worth the money (forget the logic behind this; I needed to learn Web development, so this was my excuse...)
I started the site to help my wife track her weight loss program, and allowed her friends to exchange tips in a message board. The site has exploded into something that I have mixed feelings about... it has become very successful as a weight-loss tool, which is great, but I don't want It to be just that. I added more features, like personal links and stuff, and am starting to see bigger potential.
I'm not in the business (at the moment) of selling anything on my site; it's strictly a hobby. BUT, I would like to turn it into more than that. I am the sole developer and designer, and posted a new version of the site yesterday (Dec 2nd, 2002), and gave it more of a corporate feel, added a search engine (and wrote a Spider on top of it), and posted messages about services that I'm really not ready to support, but may some day soon if I get a good response. I will never, EVER sell banner space on this site, and I would like to keep that as part of its reputation.
So, the reason for the lengthy post... I would like to know if anyone knows of specific resources other than search engine promotions where I can get more members into the site to start Clubs. It's like a Yahoo! Groups or MSN Clubs, but needs more topics (Lord, PLEASE something other than weight-loss).
If you're open to providing some constructive criticism or feedback about the site iteself, the URL is [url snipped].
And PLEASE remember, I did this all myself, and I know its not Yahoo or MSN, but maybe you see potential and have some input - or know of places I can go to recruit Club starters.
*Whew*
Thanks in advance!
