Pointing sites with no content to optimised site

To do or not to do?

Hi everyone.

We have a client whose site we optimised a while ago (eg. wesellwidgets.com). They've just now registered about three or four similar domains (eg. wesellwidgets.info, wesellwidgets.biz, wesellwidgets.org, plus another keyword-related domain) and are asking us to set them up so that anyone typing those three domains is taken straight to the original .com. I'm not really too keen on this idea for possible spam/SEO unfriendly practice issues, but I'd like to know what other peoples' thoughts are on this one. They'll have no content whatsoever. Is this a good idea or not?

Thanks.

Providing you are not planning to promote any of the other domains there is no real problem with this and is quite legitimate.

Make sue you dissallow the SE's from the redirect pages and all should be well. It is a good method of tracking marketing effectiveness. Give a different address when you use different campains, and study the number of referals in your main logs.

Cheers

I'm no great authority on this, but I think you want to avoid client side redirects (which is what it seems you are suggesting)... and you also want to avoid mirror sites (ie, the same content shown on multiple domains).

I would recommend instead a 301 redirect, where the other domains are redirected, server side, to one main domain only.
