I have read in these forums that you can redifine <h1> tags in order to make them more design freindly. What I would like to know is could you define a custom tag that was a keyword itself ie. <widgets>Text goes here </widgets>.

Would this offer any advantage or would I be wasting my time?

I don't think it will have an effect.

If you wanted to check it out for yourself, you could do a search on any of the 'usual' html tags and see what you get.

I just did one on 'h1' and got nothing to suggest it helps.

Instead of trying to devise ways of "tricking" a search engine, your time is better spent optimizing your web site for relevance.

It's not sexy or terribly clever, but relevance is the definition of the term "Search Engine Optimization."

You know the more I learn about this game the more I think I agree with you. Just trying to ask as many questions as I can and get a solid understanding of seo.

Kevin, you can create custom tags called anything you like using XML, but then it has to be processed. XML does nothing more than define the data.

That's just FYI, do your SEO straight_arrow.
