I have 2 websites with the same content. However, one is doing much better than the other on the search engines so we've decided to drop the mirror site (the one that's not doing as well) and redirect the url to the original site. I want to mask the url so that the person does not see the url of the site to which the redirect is done.

Since the second site is going to be a redirect, it's not going to be indexed by any of the SEs anyway, right? I want to know how safe this methodology is.

If you do what you describe you won't have problems i think. The problems could come if you keep both domains working with the same content.

However, (and sorry for the question) wich is the reason to mask the re-directed url?
If that domain hasn't its own content why to keep the people typing it in their browsers?
