i am currently optimising a site and need to produce stats of what position this particular site holds for numerous keywords on google. is ther a tool that will allow me to just type in the keyword and site address and the position will be returned rather than trawling through all the results?

i am downloading it now. can i use as just an analysis tool and do all the updates and changes using my current editor?. As you see from my first posting i just want to produce stats to help me optimise and justify my enormous salary.

James, people have gotten into big trouble with Google for running automated reports, it's against their Terms of Service. Be very careful with it, do a site search here and read up.

Hi James. I suggest you look in ODP directory and Google about search engine positioning. There are many apps that do this. You can review them all from there.

Google does not like people using such tools, and so too do certain other engines. GG may ban IP's that use such tools.

Also do a site search here for "position tools" or "position report" for independent views on the practice as a whole.

Personally I use two very good (and fairly unknown) metasearch engines to check our positions on various keywords across 5 to 10 engines that count. Maybe you have to do google separately and manually. Cant mention them as it is against the TOS. Very quick, much less hassle, for a reasonably valid, and probably the level of detail you need.

theres an online tool that u can use to check ur keywords one at a time:

www.sitesolutions.com

It checks multiple SEs for each run (but i dont think they like u to over use it cos its free n all). They have other random tools that r quite useful too.

Marcia,

does this mean that if i use wpg to find out what position my keywords are i might upset the google.?

if this is true then is the wpg really a tool you use on your competitors domains to get them slung off?

to search all of these keywords manually and log the positions each month is going to be very time consuming. is this the way you do it?

Time -> Money

Mention it to the client. They could perhaps just get reports on their major terms and once in a while a full report?

Yes I don't do anything that could upset google

>if this is true then is the wpg really a tool you use on your competitors domains to get them slung off?

If you consider that fare business practice, I'm very un-impressed with that question

I use top dog once a month and haven't had any problems

>If you consider that fare business practice, I'm very un-impressed with that question

the question was more of a, "what is the point of WPG if when you use it it damages your positioning"

i of course would not dream of doing anything to harm my competitors positioning within the search engines.(well not anything too nasty anyway)

>I use top dog once a month and haven't had any problems

Topdog? is this a submission tool or is it analysis only.

I don't know if Google will see you as much of an automated tool user prob if you don't have a static IP address?

My online access gets cut every 2 hours and I get a different IP each time.....don't know if that puts minds at ease if you consider using WPG.

Maybe another way is to look at your stats and see which keywords are bringing in the visitors :)

James maybe this thread may help you understand this stand point on wpg.
[webmasterworld.com...]

WPG gets the brunt of the whole query tool industry because of its popularity. Query tools, as stated before are against google's terms of service. Google was overloaded with automated queries and had to do something to stop them. Many people just hammered their servers during peak hours. These tools are ok if they are used with restraint and run during off peak hours.
