Hey there,

I am launching a small campaign for an island vacation destination and have around a $500 usd budget to get started with. This will increase as traffic does so a quick return is needed. To all you gurus out there what would a suggested campaign consist of? It seems like pay-per-click will be fairly inexpensive with the keywords I want, but what other options do I have? I think I will put aside $200 for pay-per-click wich leaves me with $300 for other things. Any advice woulr be greatly appreciated.

Thanx A lot!

Kevin

I would spend in on Yahoo. A good listing there can generate a lot of traffic. You would need to look and see how much competition there is in Yahoo for you main keywords and if there isn't too many you probably have a good chance of getting a good listing.

Definitely Yahoo and PPC.

But - instead of $200 all for PPC, take $85 of that and get an Inktomi inclusion. ($35 for first url, $25 each for two others...)

Inktomi has been losing its coverage lately, but is still very much worth it to those with a small budget needing a fast turn-around.

This is how I would spend the $500.00

Put all you have into creating and ranking the site for 1 full month of work, work, work. Build, optimize and initiate a linking campaign according to guidelines that you can easily find here on WebmasterWorld (if you don't know them yourself). Do this for 1 month, take massive action and get passionate. Submit to Dmoz and Yahoo (if you can sneak in for free - it's worked for me). Now your ready to spend the $500.00. If it's yours, take your self out to dinner. If it's from your boss, hand it back to them and tell them to pay you once you begin to make them money, then smile, you can bet they'll cut you some slack.

Welcome to Webmaster World KevinC ! (I've been waiting to say that to someone)

Here [webmasterworld.com] is a thread I found when I first found my way here. Very similar advice, and a solid start, to what has been said above.

Thanx for the advice, I was planning doing a bunch of ppc keywords along with a yahoo submision. I don't understand the importance of inktomi, can anyone tell the advantage of being listed on this site?

Inktomi power MSN. You get PPC listings first, Looksmart following, then Inktomi. For slightly unusual phrases there will be no PPC or Looksmart and therefore Ink results can come out on top. (But not for common generic searches)
