Can't think why I don't...

I have very similar positions on Google and AV,between 1st and 5th, on the majority of relevant keywords and phrases for a clients site, yet, 1.4% of my visitors this year came from AV and 74.8 from Google.
The descriptions look fairly good, perhaps more intelligable on AV. Does no one use Av for searching these days¿
My target audience, currently, is the UK, but I don't funnel the pages in any way geographically.
Get almost as good listings on other engines, but get nothing really in the way of visitors, the odd 1% or less.
Can anyone suggest a reason for this¿

1.4% from AV isn't too out of line. 3-5% really would be pretty good (based on my experience).

But I'd be worried about 74.8% from google. (putting all the eggs in one basket so to speak). It's really good to get those referals, so I wouldn't complain.

AV has really gone down since its heyday. But there are indications that it's making a comeback. Your low referal percentage really is just an indication of the low traffic that AV has anyway.

Yeah, I know what you mean....
Google just happened.
They get an awful lot of enquiries (property sales) and qualified leads from the site. They have sold properties from these leads, so they are very happy. Maybe I am just hoping for too much.
I put the same effort into being AV friendly as I did any other engine/directory. I'll not stop doing so, but I start to wonder why¿ I haven't yet paid for listings. The clients are having to expand their offices and staff and I'm sure they will want more visitors to the website. Just wondered how to get more visitors to AV, so they can find me..... LOL

Depends on the demographic of the AV users. Is there any data as to who is using AV: teens, women, old guys? And searching for what?

It seems like each of these engines has a slightly different core group of users. I would love to find out decent data on each. ;)

I wonder if AV users tend to be older holdovers from it's heyday?

It is improving and spidering deeper lately, even picking up pages on its own.

Hasn't half the world bought a 'puter with internet connection since AV's heyday¿ :)

A user profile for each engine/directory would be very useful IMO.

My site is aiming at buyers of property in the sun, so perhaps I could suggest that more of these people are responding to google than any other source.

I second Brad's comment. Have one site geared to "students and science fair". Between August and May 70% - 80% visitation comes from AV on this site.

AV seems like it has players of computer/electronic games using it too.

I have noticed my hits from AV climbed to about 8 - 9% over the past 3 months. Not sure what this might mean although I believe they are trying for a comeback.

That sounds intresting, 'fathom'.
Does anyone else get younger responses from AV?
I don't really have sites that would interest younger people much, perhaps that's why I get little response from AV.
Perhaps a larger demographic study is in order here?
