Greetings from a total beginer.

I have been lurking on these boards for the past few months whils I have been working on my very first website. I am now at the stage where I am almost ready to upload to my host. My question is...
Has anyone ever compiled a complete list of where to submit?
the main ones are obvious but what 2nd grade se's and directories have you had luck with. It would be good to be able to scroll down a page and have links open in new windows. Add your site manualy, close the window and carry on down the list.

Thanks in advance,

Oh, yes! and welcome to WebmasterWorld, red_bull. Glad to have you come out of lurking.

Here's the great chart Brett did showing all the relationships - a who's who of whoever there is that you need to know about:

Search Engine Relationships [webmasterworld.com]

And here is a comprehensive list you can go down and read, and as you asked for, it's got links to submit pages:

Search Engine Submission - The Major Players [webmasterworld.com]

Those should get you started well on your way. Submitting to ODP is most important, since a lot of search engines use their data.

You'd do well to check the appropriate ODP categories, or the Google flavor of ODP - to make sure about Page Rank in some cases, and find secondary search engines and directories that way.

Good idea would be to go to your favourite search engine google (caugh) :) and do a search for (your industry "add url") topic specific directories are a great way to work on your Page rank. Be sure to be very wary about where you list your site though. Stay well away from link farms, FFA pages and the like. These will do you no good at all, and could do you a lot of harm.

All the best with your new site.

And welcome to Webmasterworld.
