Targeting the Silver Surfer

Any directories or engines targeting this market?

I have a site to promote and the owner wants to specifically target the silver surfer market. Are there any directories or engines specifically aimed at this group.

I've seen a few and can recall one (see sticky). I've been working with an economic development group seeking to market to retirees... As it turns out, the silver set is pretty hard to ferret out directly. The best results have been coming from other categories that have a high interest, like health and travel.

I am guessing you aren't talking about the comic book. I was a bit confused with RC's response. When you say Silver Surfer are you referring to Senior Citizen web users?

I think Ian is referring to the baby-boomer market - those over 50. But I am assuming...

These folks: AARP [aarp.org]

Among other things, digging through their back-links might yield something.

Yes 'Silver Surfer' is a name given to the over 50's on the web. It is certainly commonly used over here in the UK.

My own thoughts were that MSN, AOL and Yahoo were good targets, but what I was looking at was if there are specific engines and directories targetting this marketplace.

Ian, I happened to stumble upon this related article today while catching up on some online reading; How To Market To 50 Year Old Boomers [centerformediaresearch.com]

The following points have been more than borne out by my own experience, my travel sites (which, using the term below, 'stealth market' real estate) have a very solid base of inquiries that indicate they are researching retirement

- marketers need to change the scope of the marketing paradigm to focus on grooming, travel and leisure and especially financial planning.

- Try Stealth Marketing and new descriptors

Ian, Im not sure if you are aiming to target the UK on this one but hairnet.org seems to target the "silver surfer".

You may also want to use searches on "grey market", another term that Ive seen being used to describe more seasoned users ;)
