Okay, we've all come to poke fun at the Christine Hall - traffic maget graphics we *all* get via email.

Well, within the past few weeks, under an email address that is clealry identified as that of an SEO company's domain, I have gotten numerous messages with the subject as "Subject: Your SEO services"

...I won't go into detail, but after about 4 replies, back and forth, it seems like a really nice affilliate marketing scam - where we get to provide optimized domains and pages for their materials.

Anyone else getting this?

We've been approached with similar proposals called "SEO Portals."

Our company would create the portal, optimize and market it. After doing so they would provide the clients/content for the portal. The company would charge clients to be placed onto one of these high-ranking portals and in return pass a fee along to our company.

At first glance, this doesn't sound like a bad idea. However, I cannot help but wonder how much of the content/clients would be affiliate links of the company and useless Spam? Ethically these so called portals are starting to sound like an optimized "link farm" or "FFA" page.

Do we really want our company name associated with a portal that could possibly be banned by the search engines?

I say they are wanting free SEO services for their affiliate links pages. Any insight from anyone?

One SEO company went this route and had their "network" or "directory" pegged as a link farm. Got themselves a nice PR0 if I recall correctly.

Yes, we have gotten many of these proposals. They are littering our e-mail boxes with scams. They want you to create a "portal" and they claim they will get clients to sign up for your portal and pay you for click throughs.

It seems to us that they are desparately trying to get their clients to the top and can't figure out why. They need to stick to true SEO strategies that are proven effective.

Besides, top search engines do not like the portal strategies. They are basically FAA link pages.

Anyone ever notice you never seem to receive any emails from Christine Hall (or any other spammers) until you've already achieved high rankings?

I mean, they find you through a search engine query, then try to tell you that you're not listed in the search engines.

How many dopey people fall for this?

Just wondering...
