I have found myself in a bit of a predicament, after switching from OS 9 to OSX and getting all the software, i decided to get rid of classic completly, 5 months later down the line, i've switched jobs and they don't have quark 5 or 6! I now need to re-install quark 5, but for some reason i cant. I dont want to have to initalise the disk and start from scratch, is their anyone out there who knows if it can be done this way round?

I managed to install OS9 but when it trys to boot up, it fails and an error message says,

The system software on the startup disk only functions on the original media, not if copied to another drive

Any ideas out there would save me a good nights worth of re-installing to systems and software!

Not sure if it applies here, but did you "bless" the system folder? I don't remember how that's done off hand, but you should be able to find out doing some searches.

(hope the belated response isn't too late :)

This means that you've tried to simply copy the OS 9 System Folder from the OS 9 install CD. This will not work. That is a special customized, stripped down System Folder, and will not function on any volume other than the Install CD.

You *must* boot your machine from that OS 9 Install CD and actually *install* Mac OS 9 onto your system. I would also advise you to run all Software Update cycles under OS 9 before booting back into OS X and trying to load up Classic.

I hope this helps.
