Will we EVER see Google ToolBar for Mac?

Safari is easily the best choice of browser for Google ToolBar on the Mac platform, but there's already this search box on the top right corner. How do we encourage Google to get us a toolbar? I'm tired of going back and forth between Virtual PC and Mac to find out PageRank.

Thanks much!

I agree. I don't even have Virtual PC so I'm faced with instant messaging a friend to check PR for me. Luckily she doesn't mind since she's interested in it also, but would sure be nice to get a PR reference tool of some kind for Macs. Even if it's not a full tool bar, it doesn't seem fair that we Mac users don't have access to this PR information.

PR shows next to sites listed in Google's directory as a graphical bar. Maybe someone only needs to write a client side app that will find a site in the directory and change the graphical bar to an immediately recognizable number?

It wouldn't work for every site but it would be a start... hmm... If only I knew how to write an app instead of just double-clicking them. :)

Maybe the solution is to look away from Google and toward Apple? Since they built in the browser searchbox, they already have the Google API and should be able to get permission from Google to add the functionality for all their users, eh?

I just attended MacWorld in San Francisco last week and at a session with Doug Hanley of MacTek, he repeatedly admonished everyone to visit the Apple feedback page and make suggestions, insisting that they actually listen and incorporate requested features into the OS.

Worth a try.

With PR? No. Not unless Safari or Mozilla can/will send Google all your surfing data. It's a trade: PR for your data. Do you think Mozilla or Apple is going to write an API that allows any third party to grab all that data? As far as I know, invasion of privacy is an IE-only feature. :)

It would be simple to do without making a whole toolbar API in Safari... simple have a dock icon that shows the PageRank of whatever page you are looking at in Safari (basically a separate app). The problem of course is that the checksum algorithm required to *get* the PageRank from Google's servers is a closely guarded secret.

In my opinion I feel this GoogleBar [googlebar.mozdev.org] for Moz has the best chance for Mac for the PageRank.

However I am inclined to agree with digitalpoint. Simply running the PageRank in the dock or in the menu bar somewhere. Production for something like this should be a days work for Google ha!

As pro Mac that I am… and it has been said again and again and again. The fact that we only claim a small percentage of the market is the simple reason why there is no PR for Mac. On the flipside we should be happy we don’t have this spyware (cough) on our OS. I have a PC in the office for that ha!

If there were going to be a Google ToolBar with PR for Mac, I would bet that the Mozilla version has the best shot. I don’t care if there is one… be kind of cool.

Desperate? As mentioned here before… Just buy that PC emulator (made by the evil empire) for Mac!

Doesn't work with G5 macs... maybe the next version will? :(

The most useful browser to have a Google toolbar for would be Mozilla, that way you could run it on Mac, Linux or Windows. I like Safari, but having the page rank indicator in a browser that runs everywhere would make more sense.

I have wondered if Google regret having the Page Rank indicator - it does help drive the interest in SEO and spammers claiming they can get you higher PR through iffy measures. Then again, they could always turn it off if they wanted. OK, everyone in SEO would be upset, but that's only a small number of people world-wide.

whoisgregg: Thanks
I have a G5 Dual 1.8 that I just bought... I have not installed my copy of v p c on it yet. Though I have a PC in the office (which I hate), I like to have a copy on the mac for quick switching on the mac to check work.

Bummer... Oh well ;) Thanks for saving me the trouble.

Psilver: Ditto!
I also personally think the PR is romanced much more than it needs to be…
