please bear with me, i know very little about this subject.

i heard a rumor that i could host a site using the space i've been given by my ISP on my desktop. i'm not typing about the 'personal pages' that that have the ugly, generic URL--like *home.cmcst.net/~username/index* etc.

is there a way to do this using a domain that i register?

i'm pretty sure that with my ISP i have a static IP.

i dont expect a detailed manual on how to do this, just some terminology that i could use to dig deeper and software that i may need.

(that said, i've never been disapponted with the responses i get from this site, and a detailed manual would be far from a bad thing!)

thanks

Do you mean that you are thinking of using your setup as a server?
