I have some content written in English by non-native speaker. In my opinion, it is written in rather quality ESL (English as a Second Language), but I would like it to be updated by native speaker. So I have two questions:
1) What is a usual cost for editing such texts?
(All texts together are ~5000 words)
2) Did anyone have the same problem? :) Any special advices?
1) It really depends on the quality of the translations/writings. We've gotten some that were little more than word-for-word translations (with a few creative trips to the thesaurus :) ), while others needed very little fixing. Since we did it in-house, we never really broke down the costs for that.
2) If this is an ongoing procedure, it's best to use the same source/translator as much as possible. That way you get used to that person's style and you can do some "training." For example, every time we start using a new person, I have to train the person to use our particular styles. I also have to try to teach them to follow my (perhaps somewhat anal) formatting (e.g., left-justified instead of fill-justified text, get rid of smart quotes, etc.).
