Changing Domain Names - What To Do Now?

Company is wanting to change domain name to something shorter/easier than current domain name. Own the new domain name and are redirecting to the old name. The new domain name will not replace the old one for six months at least. Company is wanting search engine optimization now. Problem is - new domain name mainpage is nothing but a redirect. If I 'submit my site' to ATW - will it spider through the site at all since the mainpage is nothing but a redirect? Company does not want me submitting anything referencing the old domain name? Any advice?

Probably not. It will find the old domain as the relevant one since it contains all the content.

I would put all the old content under the new domain and redirect the old domain to the new one. That way the SE'S will index the pages under the new domain. I would use a 301 permanently moved redirect.

So in your opinion - if the "powers that be" will not move the files (we don't have the access here) to the new domian name - then submitting the site to ATW will be futile?

Yes. Imo ATW will see new domain as a site with no content and therefore probably not list it.
