I just noticed this at the bottom of a search page. How long have they been using DMOZ?

Dov'é? I can't see it at all. What were you searching on, out of interest?

Machiavelli,

It's at the bottom of the results pages, next to the Dell logo.

Machiavelli, it's there for teddy bear patterns, the site dropped down 9 places since Dec. 4th. But not showing for miniature teddy bear patterns - which stayed the same. Site hasn't been submitted to dmoz yet.

This is interesting - goat milk soaps (in DMOZ) is now beat out by a site with the url as title, and number 1 has "welcome to my website" for a title. logo is on bottom of that page.

Another site stayed the same, and DMOZ is also not showing on the bottom. Another search term has the whole first page (not at all competitive), no dmoz on bottom. Nobody else has spidered that whole site (which is in DMOZ) except FAST, and I never did submit all the pages - just the two I worked on. This should be interesting to watch.

More too, same pattern. I'll wait til it settles in, and submit incoming links there to see what that does.

Thanks - I see now. They are pretty well hidden, aren't they? I was expecting a seperate section, or some sort of directory link, but they just appear (so I can see) exactly the same as the main results. There isn't even anything different in the HTML as far as I can see.

I don't get this. Show me a search string.

Every search, the logo is at the bottom:

[alltheweb.com]

And that is all it says, Brett. It's a bit strange.

Just did 20 searches in four different languages with mixed results. Nothing conclusive but:

Hypothesis: If the keyword exists among the ODP category names, something is retrieved from there and the logo is shown. I appears to affect ranking. If the keyword is not featured by ODP nothing happens.

Lots of room here for further research.

Here are a few, with comparisons:

bearfolks (not yet submitted to dmoz):

[alltheweb.com...]

[alltheweb.com...]
type=all&query=teddy+bear+patterns&exec=FAST+Search

alabu - in dmoz (I sent him a few changes, he put them in, I submitted two pages only)

(the one with the WHOLE first page)

[alltheweb.com...]

[alltheweb.com...]

[alltheweb.com...]

funbows (in dmoz and yahoo) #4,5,7,8,9 (logo on bottom of page):

[alltheweb.com...]

Interesting.

[alltheweb.com...]

[alltheweb.com...]

The search string doesn't show anything different
for Dmoz or non-Dmoz included searches.

Marcia:

So teddy+bear+patterns -> dmoz added from Recreation: Collecting: Toys: Teddy Bears: Bearmaking Supplies and/or Recreation: Collecting: Toys: Teddy Bears: Artists and Bearsmiths

miniature+teddy+bear+patterns -> dmoz not added - no category in spite of above

goat+milk+soap -> dmoz added presumably from Shopping: Health and Beauty: Skin Care: Soaps

handcrafted+goat+milk+soap -> dmoz not added in spite of category Shopping: Health and Beauty: Skin Care: Soaps: Handmade

It seems that the first word of the dmoz category might play a role, or...?

rencke, I just checked again - it appears that your hyphothesis is valid. I'm wondering, though, how they're integrating the sites from dmoz.
