What happens during a FAST update?

Seeing no difference in optimized pages.

I have changed our front page about three times in the last month.

Each time I change it, it becomes more and more relevant to the keyphrase we're targeting - and the page itself matches/beats the top ranked site for that keyphrase.

The title and description have changed to reflect that the page was crawled and the listing was updated, but we have not budged an inch.

Would I have seen an instant change in rank or do I have to wait for an update?

I was under the impression that this was something that happened instantly after the new page is indexed.

That page is currently spidered through InSite Select.

Not necc. Like other search engines, there isn't necc a correlation between a new description and a ranking. The rankings could be based on the old content for awhile (until the next big update).
