Update begins

My link count is fluctuating slightly and new links appearing. FAST maybe on the dancefloor and getting ready to boogie....

There have been no update there have been a slight change, but no update, it's impossible if there were a update and my links stayed the same when google found 79 new links on the last update, and FAST haven't found these yet and non of them are dynamic links.

I'm feeling a bit cheesed as Fast used to work like their name...what's gone wrong??? I've also written to them a few times and they don't reply... Have Yahoo bought them or something???

Ho, no way. Y! who are cutting costs where possible would rather get paid for integrating websearch on their sites than buying an SE.
BTW: Fast shares have gone up considerably over the last week or so.

I suspect the somewhat slow update at Fast may come as a consequence of their renewal of search options and services.

Well Altavista has a $200 Million debt. And altavista doesn't claim that they update their index ever 9-12 th day either.

You are absolutely correct in your observations. We are running late with our reindexing, and we are off schedule. This is due to introduction of very large chunks of new technology for crawling. Our latest estimate is to have a completely fresh index up within the coming week. We are talking closely with our customers to inform them of the state, and I apologize for any issues that have caused you. I am totally convinced that this major technology upgrade (1 out of 3 major in the next two months) will be extremely beneficial for you moving forwards. ;-)

lazerzubb, luckily you haven't paid a single $ for their indexing and inclusion, so waiting a day or 2 would probably be ok ;)

Rumbas that's true only because i live in Europe and cant test their Partner program, But i have tolled my clients that they will often see results within a month and that's because i used to trust Fast a when they sad 9-12 days, It didn't do anything if the update came 15 days later but it have been over a month now.

We can expect Fast to have 1.8 Bill. files indexed with the coming update. This has put some serious pressure on their systems. Add the major features newly introduced and you will come to the conclusion that a delay in their 9-12 days refresh cycle is not surprising.
A major engine refreshing the largest index worldwide faster than any other engine, plus refreshing thousands of news sources permanently, plus refreshing PartnerSites daily - thatīs not bad, after all.

Even though I don't rank well on FAST, the fact that they are free and moving forward so quickly makes Heini's comments spot on.

Add to that the fact that their Director of Engineering, Knut, takes the trouble to post to us on here means that they attract my utmost respect.

I'm looking foreward to the new update, and FAST looks like a major player in Europe, deals with T-online, Terra Lycos, and not to forget Tiscali (upcomming) will give FAST a top 3 position in most European countries.

The index for a search engine can be a huge amount of data, and it takes a lot of work to do a clean switchover. Sounds like FAST has been working very hard to integrate their new technology. I think you should be more patient.

Wow, even Google are sticking up for Fast! Any chance of a merger between you two? If so, let me know first so I can buy shares!

Patience is a virtue, we all know that. And introduction of new technologies at a site/index of the size of FAST takes time and probably some "unexpected errors" occurs too.

I think the impatience is due to quote: "Our latest estimate is to have a completely fresh index up within the coming week" (Nov. 24.th) stated by KnutRisvik in this thread.

Anyway, it's better to let us wait for some days - yes even weeks - and then be sure the technology works as intended.

Implementing a new technology too early and having troubles could damage FAST more than having eager webmasters wait a little longer. (just take a look at the size of the Google dance threads)

Ofcourse it's nice to know when the update goes live, but more interesting is what the new technology will bring.
