need help about ranking

How does the lycos ranking system work? I submitted my site to Lycos but I am not getting any hits from them. I see my results but I want to know how to make my link move higher in my search. Can someone please tell me how this whole lycos thing works? Thanks a lot

I used the "site search" feature ( top menu ) to query for "Lycos algo" there is a whole lot more info about it in other links it found.

Pages titles and first lines of text are good for the internal part. They also use Direct Hit for off page factors. Lycos does not crop results under a domain name, it can be scary when you have all top 10 positions.

The more competitive your keyword is the more it will be influenced by Direct Hit.

Your best course of action with Lycos is to follow the standard methods of page design and optimization
Lycos.com has just changed the way serps are built. I do not see any directhit influences anymore. Apart from sponsored links at the top and an occasional top result from the lycos network itīs standard alltheweb. Linkpopularity and good onpage optimization is the key to good ranking.

Yeah, itīs fresh - happened on November 1. Directhitīs popular listings are still on Hotbot. TerraLycos network now uses pure alltheweb worldwide - finally making Fast a top player on a global scale.

The PartnerSite beta still is not available for European sites. The announcement was European beta would be started via Lycos.de. But I can assure you - nothing has happened so far.

I get the same veird results.
They change, but I'm able to remake the initial search by clicking the logo and search from the front page. It looks to like there are less returning results when you go back from page 2.

kingtut1 - I feel that Lycos is perhaps the easiest engine to rank on by classic page optimization... title, description, headings, page text. If you're not doing well you should read up on this... lots of good threads around the board.

If you rank well and aren't getting any hits, then perhaps you haven't chosen search targets that are searched often, or haven't target a large enough bunch of less frequently searched targets.

thank you so much:) I just read the link.. Man, I guess the only thing i can do is try. I just added all my sites to lycos. I get hits from google like lots but i want other engines as well. Also thank you all so much, this is a great form. :)

One more thing....he he he When does lycos update its open directory? I have three listings but none have showed up. One list got added 2 months ago...thanks

No more ODP on Lycos US, I'm afraid. That went at the same time as they dropped the Direct Hit listings.
