However, now what i am seeing, is the partners listing, no.1 (no problems), then this popular 5 comes up, is it another partner, it looks like paid listings, as some of the sites, don't have the relavancy scores to be that high.
Any help, i would appreciate.
cheers

umm, Mr. Nader... we have a violation <chuckle>
Well, DH (??? Direct Hit ??) might be the source, as I am in their top 5, as are most of my major competitors. So Big John, you might be wiser than I.
>edited: My first post (above and below) of this overtaken by Big John's comments re results showing from GoTo in Popular<
But in any event, even if DH is the source, it's not paid for. But I will check out the similarities between DH and Lycos top 5 for my type business. Interesting ....
In the past both Lycos and HotBot, as well as some others were known to use DH, but it seemed they only used the top 3 or so from DH, but right now, it appears Lycos is using not only those top 5, they have a lead to "Other Popular Sites" that goes to the next page from the first results that are rendered, (at least that is the case for searches on my search terms for my site) and thus the first two pages (1-10) on Lycos results may really be nothing but DH.
see their newsflash pop-up [espotting.com]
I thought espotting was only doing the UK and Europe Lycos popular listings, i did'nt think that it was doing the .com or other regionals.
Furthermore, though i don't pay espotting, using hotdog, site pages come up #1 for keyphrases, however within the lycos - espotting results, notya bean - except under the popular listings.
I did check. For what it's worth, for my primary keywords what Lycos returns:
Top 3 are from GoTo
Next comes a section called "popular sites": The first 5 are from Direct Hit and then there is a link to a separate page with more popular sites and they are all from Direct Hit, all in the exact same order as what you would get at Direct Hit for those keywords.. (non-paid, I know because I am in there and I do not pay DH for my listing).
Below the top 5 popular sites on page 1 there are listings called "web results." Those appear to be from Lycos' own system(s) -- ie: Fast, and in fact the top 2 sites match exactly what Fast returns at www.alltheweb.com.
Also, as an aside, at HotBot the first 10 or so results for my primary keywords are all from Direct Hit, in the exact same order as what you would get at Direct Hit for those keywords.
Guess the bottom line is, for Lycos and Hot Bot it helps to have a top listing with DH.
:)
