Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me solve a big problem that I am having with Lycos.

For some reason my rankings have deteriorated in Lycos whilst remaining high in FAST/All The Web. These rankings were top 10 for three specific keyphrases and now they're not in the Top 100.

The confusing part is that for these keyphrases I still rank in the Top 10 in FAST/All The Web.

I was under the assumption that Lycos primarily uses FAST and the ODP for web site results? Whilst my ranking in the ODP is only ranking about 50 for the main keyphrase it ranks number 2 in FAST.

Is it possible that I have been banned for some reason in Lycos?

Can anyone offer an explanation for this?
Any help would be much appreciated.
thanks in advance.

How are you listed well in AllTheWeb?

Under the search parameters...

all the words
any of the words
exact phrase

Lycos and FAST's partners tend to list more of the sites that appear well under AllTheWeb.com's "exact phrase" search than the rest. It's not always the case but seems to be most of the time.

Do a search for your target keyword in AllTheWeb.com and select "exact phrase", note down what appears in the top 5-10. Then go to Lycos.com and search for the same keyword phrase (Just do a regular search, not advanced). Look and see if the sites match up with those listed in FAST.

msgraph> Thanks for your help. I didn't realise that Lycos was using the "exact phrase" results from FAST. Now I have to work out how to optimise for those results.

From what I can gather FAST are similar to Google as far as indexing the surrounding text that first contains the specific keywords. Is this correct?

Also does Fast's crawler support the <noframes> tag?

What happened with your rankings on sympatico?

Can you still find the site in Lycos?

There are wild variations between the Fast proper and the Lycos results.
