Why?

Maybe one of you kind souls can help this newbie.

I put up my first website (Version 1) in Sept. '02. On it's first crawl, Google ranked it in the top 20 (out of thousands) for my primary key phrase. (Beginner's luck!)

Version 1 was very simple and I wanted to add some products and jazz it up a little, so, in November, I came out with Version 2. In the November crawl, Version 2 was cached but not ranked. I was told by someone knowledgeable the reason was probably because the key phrase density was too high.

I made changes and put Version 3 out in December. In the 01/01/03 crawl, it was skipped. I say this because the cache of the index page as shown on the Google toolbar is still Version 2.

I am listed on Open Directory. I have paid to register with YaHoo and with Inktomi. I can understand possible low or no ranking...but why would I be skipped entirely?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ringo,

welcome to webmasterworld, you may want to remove URL from your post, as its not in par with terms on here.

What are your logs showing in relation to the Googlebot visiting your site, cached versions are not a very good guide to whats taking place.

I know I shouldnt be posting this, but hey, what the heck as you seem to have moved your url very quickly.

Your Yahoo link is from a 0/10 category way down the directory.

Your Dmoz link does not show.

and there are NO there external backlinks showing.

Head over to the Google Forum [webmasterworld.com] and New to Web Development Forum [webmasterworld.com], spend some time reading the posts, all your fears and questions will be answered.

after that spend time getting quality links and content in anticipation of the next crawl (you may have missed it this month)

Hope the above helps.

Shak

(mods, sorry)
