Just what is the real purpose of altering these?

68.38.234.197 - - [05/Dec/2002:20:52:03 -0800] "GET /Libraries.html HTTP/1.1" 200 14420 "XXXX:+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; .NET CLR 1.0.3705)"
Shortened ++++ to reduce side scroll

This one plays out to...

12/06/02 02:48:46 IP block 68.36.0.0
Trying 68.36.0.0 at ARIN

I mean, what is the point? To what end?

Afterall, if they're in my access log files they musta been visitin me, right?
<he asked inquisitively>

Thanks.

The referrer is being masked by firewall software on the visitor's computer for the purposes of privacy. Nothing to be concerned over.

Thanks Key_Master,

I've had my domain since '98 and I've not seen anything like this before. I guess not all firewalls mask the same way. <shrug> Either that, or there are lots of people out there without them.

Me, I use a router and a firewall on my DSL and have for as long as I've been on DSL.

Thanks again.

Some people think that it will further their privacy if they put something in your logs that makes their visit stick out like a sore thumb. ;)

Folks like you and me are not supposed to understand the logic behind that, I suppose...
