Is it possible to filter out your own hits to your website so the logs reflect a more accurate picture about visitors?

Thanks,

That's a very good idea!

You can filter out Ip adresses in most log file analysis tools. E.g. in WebTrends you make an "exclude" filter with your own IP address (and resolved host, just to make sure) in the "User Address" section.

You may also want to filter out spiders from search engines, e-mail harvesters etc. (You still have to check what spiders are visiting your site, but keep that in a seperate profile/analysis).

Thanks!

I have set up several different reports in FastStats - one for Spider feedback and the other for stats without my personal statistics. It sures paints a different picture without your own hits to muddy things up.

When I browse my websites I use a tainted useragent string that I can then quickly filter out with a grep -v. The filtered log goes to webalizer. Changing it is quick and easy using a preferences toolbar.
