Big Brother has this small print...

How your competitors might know more about your logs than you.

This came up in a Webinar yeserday that I thought might upset a few people

You should be aware that the small print of at least one "paid and leading" cookie based tracking system has a very dangerous clause in its terms and conditions:

"[the service].com retains ownership and all rights to the HitsLink logos, trademarks, software, trade secrets, databases..."

Databases! So - although they promise not to divulge your email address in their admirable privacy policy on their home page, they don't promise not to compromise your visitor data in the small print off the signup page. I know for a fact that a good portion of the data IS compromised.

Thought people should know. i'd be happy to name and shame...

Dixon.

That is interesting. Can you expand on that and tell us what types of visitor data is compromised?

Well - we have a white label version of this product, and we have access to all data from clients that signed up through our white label.

This means all white labels have this - and a very major search engine promotion tool is a major partner of this data.
