Visitor tracking across 260 websites

Visitor tracking across 260 websites

Trying to track basic info (just unique visitors) from one site instead of looking at 260 individual stats/domains:
I have 260 city websites/unique domains. I also have a Primary website that servers as a starting point for all 260 cities. Instead of using LiveStats on each of my 260 websites I just use it on my Primary site. On each of my 260 individual city sites, I have an Inline frame that links back to the Primary site. I have an inline frame on almost every page on each of my 260 cities in order to see unique visitors across all 260 domains.
The problem is that the Primary site stats are only picking up about 60% of those visitors. Why not all visitors? They all should be triggering that Inline frame hit to make a call to the Primary site?

Or is there an easier way to track just a ballpark # of unique visitors across all 260 sites?

Thank you,
Clark

Hi clarksc3, welcome to WebmasterWorld.

The problem is likely to be that older browsers (eg NS4) didn't support inline frames, so visitors using that (and most spiders!) would not trigger your stats counter.

I don't know the licence of the stats package you're using, but can you not call the same counter from every site to give a combined figure?

I have a unlimited number of licenses available through a dea I have with the Web Hosting company. I have asked them before about a combined stats counter but I do not think they know how with LiveStats. Anything I need to ask them to do differently? All 260 sites are on one dedicated server, it seems that it would not be that hard?

Thanks for your input.

How about just loading an image on all pages from your central server and then monitor the stats on that image?

It could be your logo (site designed by xyz) perhaps named logo1.gif logo2.gif one for each site to make sorting the results by site that much easier.

Just an idea.

addition ...
image gets round V4 browsers and the frame but not local caching which the original idea also suffers from.
