How to track specific pages?

SEO looking for tracking software

OK, here's the query - having regularly optimised web sites I constantly get asked by clients how many visitors are they getting as a result of the optimisation, which keywords are working etc.

I recommend tracking software suitable for their needs, unfortunately as the wheels of corporate engines grind so slowly this tracking software is rarely implimented. What I want to do is attach simple tracking software to specific pages so I can guage entry points to these pages and the referers. That's pretty much it.

I want a simple tracking set-up that will get the information I require without placing an image on the respective page or leave the information open to everyone and their granny. I want to be able to access this information exclusively via username/password. And, I almost forgot, not pay much.

I've used Extreme Tracking (clip if you must) costing $5 a month which wasn't bad but did leave an image on the page.

Does anyone have any good experiences, recommendations or pointers to the right direction. You can sticky me for specifics if you like.

Many thanks,

RedT

Why not get them to give you FTP access to the raw log files?

Hi NFFC, because many are over 1Gb big each month and to be honest I don't want the hassle, plus I'd need to run the log-file reports too many times for all clients and I doubt all will give the ftp details - there are some over-protective webmasters out there :)

You might try AXS tracker, it's free, PW protected, gives all the basic info, works without an image.

Thanks for the prompt replies, some good suggestions so far. One final question, would the added code have an adverse effect on the rankings of pages?

I can't see how it would, although I would be interested to hear of others using tracking in the way I mentioned above.
