Very approximately, my most popular site gets 3000 visitors a day; 30 of those (going by favicon fetches) bookmark it; and perhaps 3 of them link to it from some kind of web page. (That last is real guesswork!)

Are those ratios normal?

Danny,

interesting, I never looked at bookmark statistics.

My provider gives me Webtrends statistics.

I looked at Files > Most Accessed File Types > Files

and checked the number of file types equalling "ico"

my last two months averaged 500 a month or 3.8 % of unique visitors,
that seems a bit high to me. Am I looking at the wrong data?

Referrers > Top Referring Sites

show me the following breakdown:

Mysite.com 25%
No referrer 21 %
And then come all the search engines

Am I right in assuming all bookmark referals fall in the Mysite.com list?

What type of referals fall in the [b]"No referrer"[/] category?
and is this a normal percentage?

Favicon fetches (at least by IE) send "-" as the referer, so that's where they'll be listed. Make sure you are only counting successful requests, as some clients try to fetch e.g. /blah1/blah2/favicon.ico and /blah1/favicon.ico before falling back on /favicon.ico

I would imagine bookmark rates would depend a lot on the site.

Over 5% of my visitors are due to returning visitors using their bookmarks. That's based upon examining my log files.

My site is informational, so people tend to bookmark individual pages and return frequently for updated data.
