Hello

I have a site hosted on a clara net Soho package. They offer the ability to get at log files and also bundle webalizer 2.01. I have tried to get access to the config file where you can uncomment certain lines to get diffrent features. However i cannot find this file on the server. Tech support dont really seem to be on top of this and I was wondering if anyone else had gotten round this.

Could I just upoload my own cofig file in the default stats dir? I dont want to balls the whole thing up :-)

Cheers for any suggestions.

Richard

if you have ftp access to the config file then i don't see any problem in editing it. if you screw up you can always revert back to your backup.

webalizer is only useful if you can customise it otherwise you get flooded with meaningless self-referral counts etc

if you have access to a unix box you could always install webalizer to it, ftp the raw logs across and run webalizer 'off-line' using your own config file.

Unfortunatly i dont have a unix box avaliable.

I have been told that I can ftp up my own config file which should take priority over the global ones.

I have to specify certain locations for certain things. eg log file location, output directory.

However I dont seem to be able to manage it. I dont seem to be able to identify the path correctly and it just defaults back to the old config.

Any ideas or sources where I can find this out.

Cheers

to use your own config file you need to be able to execute webalizer with a command that specifies where the configuration file is.

in my case i run a cron job which calls webalizer at a regulare time of day with a switch specifying the config file name and location.

e.g. /blah/webalizer_path/webalizer -c /blah/config_file_path/config_file

if you have no control over issuing the command to run webalizer then i don't think that you can customise it to use your own config file.
