Howdy,
I found some rather interesting items in my logs for the day. Obviously someone is upto no good but is failing miserably!

211.101.227.41 - - [19/Jun/2002:16:51:19 -0400] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 8005 "-" "Internet Explore 5.x"
211.101.227.41 - - [19/Jun/2002:16:51:43 -0400] "GET /NOTES.HTML HTTP/1.1" 404 295 "-" "Internet Explore 5.x"
211.101.227.41 - - [19/Jun/2002:16:51:43 -0400] "GET /REV.HTML HTTP/1.1" 404 293 "-" "Internet Explore 5.x"
211.101.227.41 - - [19/Jun/2002:16:51:43 -0400] "GET /SOURCES.HTML HTTP/1.1" 404 297 "-" "Internet Explore 5.x"
etc.

:-) He managed to get 1 page (the index file) and that's it. Obviously doesn't have a clue!

(IP tracks to capitalnet.com.cn which seems to be well known home of abusers)

That is no a user but a spider, which does capitalise every HTML page, such failing miserabely on *nix based systems.

Yep, definately a hand done (and very poor) spider. I particularly like the "Internet Explore 5.x" :-)

Which server are you using, and what security did you put on your web server,

umm, none of your business :-)

(FYI, since my site is non-commercial, there is nothing to "steal" anyway!)

"GHelec ,the customer of Capital Network"

So all spiders should use capital letters, obviously :)

I have a site and i have no idea how to acess these "logs" you people talk about. how exactly to i acess my logs for my site? I have a www.mysite.com/stats page.. is this what you mean by logs? although i dont see anywhere on there where to see info like whose checking my site etc, it just tells me how many hits for month, week, etc.. thanks for helping a newb..

cheater_copperpot, I guess your site is hosted by some provider, so the .../stats page you are writing about is the statistic of your site as done automatically by your provider. What it shows depends on what software they use and how it is configured. If you have FTP access, you will find that somewhere in the file structure you have a folder called stats or logs or something in the like. There you will find files with the ending .log which are bascially text files and contain facts about your site's users, such as the time they were on, their IP adress,...
