My webhost upgraded and my stats went way down

I've been on my webhost to upgrade from wusage7.1 to 8.xx for ages. Finally they did it last week. What a mistake. My visitor stats are down at least a third. wusage says this new method is more accurate; it only counts unique IPs.
Does anyone know the correlation between 'number of unique visitors' and 'number of distinct pages on other web servers'?
Before the 'upgrade' the number of visitors always exceeded the number of distinct pages on other web servers. Now it is significantly less. Any info? Any experience with the same problem?

I bet that host has raw logs available. Why not download the logs and use a real log analyzer program?

Frankly, I didn't know that was an option. Which real log analyzer program do you recommend?

FREE ones! (try analog - sorry no url handy, but I bet you can find it [google.com])

Ya, most of the hosts I have see that use Wusage (seems to be limited to the "host4u" crowd), also have raw logs available that you can download. Drop into your site in your ftp client and back up 1 directory. Often there will be a symbolic link to your log file - right click and select "download link as file" (or something to that effect in your ftp client).

I found analog will run it locally and my programmer is going to install something else on the server. I'll use the one that produces the best numbers.
