I have a site without any meaninful traffic and has ads and affiliate links. I notice I have hits from different IPs that gulps up reasonable amount from my bandwith without even reflecting on my ad impressions or my affiliate impressions. These ips are not referred by any known or unknown search engine or sites. Does anyone hava an idea of where could this low grade traffic may be coming from?

Sounds like some sort of spider to me. They are many sorts. including your ISP doing checks. trying searching for spider identicifation and see where you get.

My first question, are you using a log analyser or a tracker?

Is it possible that you are using PHP (i.e.)? Could the code be vulnerable to crackers who are using your site to send spam?

I am thinkng it's more like some sort of spider. I don't know how to do a spider check yet.

I am currently not running any php scripts and no it isn't enabled on my site.

Its a log analyser, use a tracker. Try Google analytics

Google analytics won't help find the spider, they don't register with analytics unless they are executing javascript which is rare in spiders.

I mean, to find the real visitor. A tracker will give you a better count of real visitor than log analysers.
