i have a site which receives 20,000 visitors a month / 15,000 unique visitors a month. does the ratio of visitors/ unique mean anything (ie.whats good or bad)? and
which figure should i use when talking with prospective advertisers that might advertise on the site (visitors or unique visitors)?

thanks

Many people doesn't know the difference between

Unique Vistors and visits

page loads and Hits

to attract more sponsors webmasters often tell about visits and hits because they are always higher than the Unqiue Visitors and Visits.

Don't use google analytics data if you want attrack more sponsors.. tell the data that you get in the webanalyzer or some tool that analyzes your access logs ( which give more number .. ) generally provided by hosting company..

I always use the unique visitors, becuase it is more truthful, and you know that they are real people.

There is no guarantee that they are real people. They could very well be machine generated.

jack, here is what I see a different way to look at traffic.

traffic does make sense if you are media / referring site. but if your site is a small business site then I see you go other way.

1. reverse tracking: keyword, URL, Goal etc
2. take the latest media which is on the top and try to analyse the traffic from it. ex.search engine. etc.
3. Goal: Is your goal achieve from these 20000 visitors..

As per your query, it's very difficult to know whether the visitors and unique visitor numbers are true. There are lot's of technical glitches still present with most of the analytics tools available in the market.

In your case you can go backward analysis of traffic and not on the numbers of visitors.

I hope these information makes sense to you.

Regards,
Ryan

>>Don't use google analytics data

Care to go into a little more detail as why not to use Google Analytics?

Thx

thansk for the replies, evidnetly people use both
in which case i'll probably opt for visits as thats a higher figure to be using. my question was also what the stats tell you about the site, i.e. is a ratio of 20,000:15,000 visits:unique mean anything, is that good/bad or what?

thanks
