Can someone please help clear up a long-time mystery and tell us why these same 3 IP's visit our websites most every day, sometimes multiple visits the same day?

In fact, when we make a new site they somehow know about it immediately, and often are the very first visitors to the site, even visits before the SE's or developer looks at the site himself!

They also visit most every site, most every day, well developed or very small no outside traffic new sites, makes no difference. This also screws-up our logs and traffic stats and uses bandwidth too. On some days they are the primary traffic going to some of the sites!

No, they are not connected to us or the server in any way as far as we can tell, and the IP numbers are far different vs our own.

trader,

It looks like that block of addresses is registered to "Overture Services, Inc", so I would guess it's something Yahoo! related.

you can use whois.domaintools.com to look up IP addresses

BTW, these are all Overture IP addresses. Most likely a spider. You probably have YPN on your sites or something of that nature.

The reason I never suspected it could be Yahoo/Overture is because I do in fact have YPN running on some sites but very oddly NOT the new sites which caused my concern. In fact, 2 of the sites showing visits from OV are brand new and never had OV or any other ads running.

Another oddity is that OV visits the sites almost instantly within minutes of them resolving on the web, and even before I visit the site myself to see if it works yet.

How could OV or anyone else (also had this happen often with a group of 19 twtelecom.net (timeswarner) IP's too on other sites) know the site is even online, and why would they care anyway, especially since Yahoo Publisher Network has not been installed on the site?

Is it possible OV or Y somehow stumbled across my webpage where I keep a full record with links of all my domain names and has somehow indexed them all, and thus visits all of them?

P.S. Thanks for the info on how to lookup IP's.
